Terms and Conditions of Sale for all booking channels

Exchanges

If you are unable to use your tickets we offer an exchange or credit service. Tickets can be exchanged for another performance of the same production in Leeds or for credit placed on your account. Valid for 24 months from the time of issue, credit can be redeemed against any tickets, memberships or merchandise sold by Opera North. In order to take advantage of this service your original tickets are required by the Opera North Box office at least a week before the performance (14 days for group bookings of 20 or more). Any decisions after a week before the performance will be at the discretion of the Opera North Box Office management and the original tickets must be received before any credit will be issued. Our ticket exchange service is charged at £2 per ticket (opera) or £1 per ticket (Howard Assembly Room), which includes the cost of the new tickets (where applicable) being posted out.

Tickets bought as part of Full Season Package, Create Your Own or multi-save packages, where discounts have been generated through multiple purchase, cannot be exchanged for credit vouchers or performances outside the original qualifying package. For Full Season Ticket and Create Your Own Package terms and conditions and exchanges, please see below.

Refunds

Tickets will not be refunded unless a performance is cancelled or abandoned when less than half the performance has taken place. Eligible bookers will be offered a refund along with options to credit your account for a future purchase or to make a donation.

Re-sells for Sold Out Performances

We can accept returned tickets for sold-out performances, however we must receive your original tickets, please return them to the Box Office as soon as possible. If the tickets are successfully re-sold a 24-month credit for the value of the tickets will be placed on your account minus an exchange fee per ticket of £2 (opera) or £1 (Howard Assembly Room). If the Performance is not sold out we cannot accept returned tickets.

Agency Tickets

Agents’ tickets are accepted on the understanding that the agent is acting for the customer and not for Opera North or Leeds Grand Theatre & Opera House Ltd. The above statements regarding returned tickets do not apply to tickets issued by agencies.

Reselling tickets for profit

Tickets may not be offered for resale by anyone at a premium. Resale or attempted resale for profit is grounds for cancellation without refund or notice.

Children

Children under 3 will not be admitted unless the performance is relaxed or specifically for young children; some performances have an age guidance and are not suitable for young children. We recommend that you bring specialist child ear defenders for children attending events with amplified sound; the majority of Howard Assembly Room events are amplified.

Tickets are required for each child attending a performance.  If your child is causing a disturbance to other customers, you will be asked to take them out of the venue and no refunds will be given.

We do not advise that children under 16 attend without a responsible adult and venue staff accept no responsibility for any unaccompanied children aged under 18.

Please contact the Opera North Box Office at boxoffice@operanorth.co.uk if you would like to find out more about specific performances.

Arriving late

If you arrive late for the start of a performance or after an interval we appreciate that you will want to take your seat as soon as possible. We will do everything possible to assist. Occasionally latecomers may not be admitted once the performance has started.

Mobile phones/devices

Mobile phones and electronic devices must be turned to silent/off when entering the auditorium.

Refreshments

It is not permitted to bring your own refreshments, including alcohol into Leeds Grand Theatre or the Howard Assembly Room and the theatre management reserve the right to dispose of any items not purchased in the theatre.

Safety & Security

For the safety and comfort of all customers, bags larger than a handbag will not be permitted in Leeds Grand Theatre or the Howard Assembly Room. At the Howard Assembly Room a cloakroom is available, for which there is a £1 charge per item. No cloakroom is available at Leeds Grand Theatre, so large bags (anything larger than a handbag) must be left at home or at locker storage points across the city.

Bag checks will take place on entry to both venues. Please keep bag size and additional possessions to a minimum. Bag checks look for restricted items including objects which may be considered a risk to the safety and enjoyment of audience members. This includes sharp objects, hot food and alcohol. If restricted items are found, they will be removed from the bag, retained and returned on departure. If an item is considered illegal, it will be confiscated and the police will be contacted. The venue will not be responsible for late admission or non-admission as a result of this policy.

No member of the audience will be permitted to sit in any gangway which intersects or flanks the seating.

Please note that strobe lighting, smoke effects and gunshots are sometimes used in productions.  We will endeavour to inform audiences of their use by placing signs in the foyer areas prior to the performance.

The taking of photographs, capturing of images or the use of any recording devices including mobile phones during any performance is strictly prohibited.

On occasion either Opera North, the venue or a permitted third party may carry out general filming and sound recording in or about the venue.  By purchasing tickets you consent to you and your party being included in and to the exploitation of such films and recordings without payment.

The Management of Opera North and Leeds Grand Theatre, Leeds Town Hall and Opera House Ltd reserve the right to:

  • refuse admission to the premises and any of its venues
  • request any ticket holder to leave the venue, and take appropriate action to enforce this right
  • change the advertised arrangements of any performance in the event of illness or any cause beyond our control. This includes non-appearance of any named artist.
