FILM: I Am Not A Witch
This event has passed.
In a remote Zambian community, 8-year old orphan Shula is denounced as a witch and exiled to a witch camp run by a corrupt government official.
Exploited as a witch for hire and a tourist exhibit, Shula is forced to decide whether to resign herself to life at the camp or take a risk for freedom.
A BAFTA-winning and strikingly original debut by Zambian-born director Rungano Nyoni, I Am Not A Witch masterfully combines deadpan comedy, tragedy, and vivid visuals.
“a daringly satirical parable of magic and misogyny, superstition and social strictures”
