Downing Street has announced that the new Lord-Lieutenant for the County of West Yorkshire will be Opera North board member, Ed Anderson.
Ed Anderson is currently Chairman of the Airport Operators’ Association. An economics graduate and qualified accountant, he was previously Chairman of the Yorkshire Building Society and is also a former High Sheriff of West Yorkshire. In addition to his role on the Opera North board, he is a council member of Leeds University, a trustee of the Leeds Piano Competition and pro-chancellor at Leeds Trinity University.
The ancient office of Lord-Lieutenant, which can be traced back to Tudor times, is bestowed by the Queen, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. The holder’s role involves escorting Royal visitors to the county, representing the Queen at events and presenting honours on behalf of the Crown. Ed will succeed Dame Ingrid Roscoe, the first female holder of the post who will step down on 1 September after 14 years in the role.
Edward Ziff OBE, Chairman and Chief Executive of property investor and car park operator Town Centre Securities (TCS), has been appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant. The ceremonial title is conferred on the recommendation of Dame Ingrid Roscoe.
