We recently asked our audiences on social media and via a special survey to share their one ultimate Isolation Aria for lockdown listening. The result is a fascinating musical journey – perfect for both opera buffs and anyone keen to try opera for the very first time.
Thank you to everyone who sent us their favourite. The response was fantastic and we have included every suggestion we received in the Spotify playlist below. It ended up being an amazing introduction to opera from the seventeenth century right up to the twentieth, with choices from both popular and lesser-known works.

From Monteverdi to Mozart to Menotti, the playlist features over four hours of the arias which have touched and entertained Opera North audiences the most. Whether people choose to listen to it all the way through in one go, or enjoy it as and when they get a moment, we hope they will be instantly transported to the opera house where, in the words of Madama Butterfly, we look forward to returning ‘One Fine Day’.
