Martin Hayes Trio
Book NowIrish fiddler Martin Hayes, praised by the Irish Times as a musician with an “insatiable appetite for adventure”, returns to the Howard Assembly Room.
Hayes’ soulful interpretations of traditional Irish music are recognised the world over for their exquisite musicality and irresistible rhythm. Born in East County Clare, he has been immersed in music his entire life, his uncle and father themselves being renowned fiddle players. In a typical attempt to broaden his horizons, Hayes moved to Chicago in his 20s and threw himself into the city’s musical life, finding collaborators within and beyond folk. That openness has carried him to fruitful projects with the likes of Bill Frisell, Yo-Yo Ma, Sting and Paul Simon, as well as founding the American/Irish folk supergroup The Gloaming.
Through those experiences Hayes has developed a distinct approach to arranging and performing traditional Irish music. The lightness of his playing and its depth of personality make his fiddle instantly recognisable whether playing an old favourite or something completely new.
